Hapag-Lloyd announces second corporate acquisition of the year

The deal, which is still subject to approval by the relevant antitrust authorities, is expected to close in the coming months. According to the data, Spinelli Group has been operating in Italy since 1963, and its core business is to provide shipping companies with comprehensive services in the whole chain of container logistics, including port terminal services, multimodal transport solutions, trucking, warehousing, container sales and leasing, and customs services Wait.

Spinelli Group provides port-related services to clients in Genoa, La Spezia, Livorno, Naples, Salerno, Taranto, Gioia Tauro, Cagliari and Venice Vono, Padua, La Spezia, Reggio Emilia, Milan and other places have multimodal transportation centers to provide customers with related freight services. This is also Hapag-Lloyd's second acquisition this year.

On March 10 this year, Hapag-Lloyd signed a framework agreement with the German shipping company Deutsche Afrika-Linien (DAL) to acquire DAL's container shipping business. Previously, in order to strengthen its African market strategy, Hapag-Lloyd also acquired all shares in Dutch container shipping company Nile Dutch Investments B.V. (NileDutch) in 2021.

As the current downward trend of freight rates in the market becomes more and more obvious, some shipping lindes are not optimistic about the market trend in the second half of this year and are more cautious in investment.

However, Hapag-Lloyd CEO Rolf Habben Jansen remains optimistic about the market outlook. "Although there are signs of a decline in spot freight rates, we still expect strong performance in the second half of the year," he said after announcing first-half results. He believes that the tight global supply chain situation will improve after the peak season this year. Rolf has also made it clear that he is interested in more acquisitions in the container space if the right opportunity arises.
